A century or so ago

Northern Fields, Autumn Courtroom, Prythian

Her wedding 24-hour interval is uneventful, full of boorish people and, to make matters worse, it pours down the entire time.

Annika detests the rain every bit much she detests her new married man.

Emilian Ardor has the wry smile of a hunter with an easy prey's blood soaking his clothes. He drinks the day away, flaunting his wealth, flirting with the musicians, and stuffing his oral cavity with enough sweets to feed an entire hamlet.

Despite this, Annika supposes that she can find a few reprieves in the middle of this rather distressing state of affairs. For one, when she declared she did not wish for her family unit to come, Emilian's reply was a uncomplicated shrug, then she was spared having to look at her father'southward face and trying to hibernate the desire to spill his blood on the white petals covering the basis. And though she has spent the last hour existence dragged around by her husband'southward arm to greet his… friends, he has not spoken more 4 words to her since their vows, nor has he attempted to touch her more information technology is considered necessary. As well, the ceremony begins and ends earlier she can bask in her revolt, and her husband's vino has been satisfactory enough to keep her company since and so.

They dine solitary in his ostentatious table, candlelight between them. Annika has traded her gown for a simple tunic and dark trousers to lucifer. She had no intention of impressing his friends earlier with that appalling alibi of a clothes, and she certainly has no intention of impressing Emilian now with the clothes she feels most comfortable in.

We've Met

Eira was well acquainted with the feeling of boredom she was experiencing right at present. There was something so tedious about war rooms, particularly when she was just there to observe, which was a job hands washed by literally whatever spy, so she wasn't quite sure why she had been asked to go instead of Varrick, an Illyrian that also worked for Nora that usually took these mind-numbing jobs. Alas, here she was, sitting in the back of a war tent as the Loftier Lord's and High Lady'southward prepared to skirmish with Eris' forces.

Really, information technology was less of a diplomatic procedure than it was five idiots yelling at each other, with Helion, Viviane and Thesan standing by. Feyre and Tarquin looked seconds abroad from throwing down and Tamlin looked ready to throttle Eira's father, Kallias, but other than that, information technology was greatly wearisome. She zoned out until she felt someone sit beside her.

She turned her head but to be met with a side view of Fraser Vanserra's jaw line. She tucked a knee up shut to her face and hoped he didn't find her slightest flush.

Information technology wasn't that she liked Fraser, in fact the final time they spoke he was all the same a piece of shit, only she would not deny that she found him attractive. And she would know, because he had been one of her very few 1 night stands, then she was well aware of the hard ridges and potent muscles he currently had hidden nether his shirt, tunic and pants.

But she ignores him and turns back to the coming together.

She is well enlightened he is watching her and if she had to guess, he was probably working out in his head how he knew her.

"Lady Eira," he leans in to her ear to speak. She turns her head slightly to encounter his optics.

"Fraser. How are you?"

"I'm alive aren't I? And you?" He asks, trying to play at nicety.

"Fine," he chuckles quietly and she stamps downward the shudder that threatens to wrack her spine.

"Don't feel like telling me the truth, practise you Eira?"

"I've yet to see a reason to want to tell you the truth Fraser. I lie to people I don't trust," she shrugged. She had heard that he had inverse but she wanted to encounter the proof before she felt the need to exist polite. Merely he just lets out some other dark and repose chuckle and leans a petty closer, his teeth brushing the tips of her ears.

"Well, then, maybe I should convince you to trust me," his hand brushes hers behind her back where none of the lord's could run across it. She moves her hand away and turns to confront him, smirking when he shifts back.

"Sorry, but people I can trust can concur my hand," she says with a smirk and so her parents are calling her away from the meeting. She jumps from the crate they had been sitting on and gives him a finger moving ridge equally she leaves the tent.

"Y'all seemed to be having an intense conversation with the Vanserra boy. I didn't know y'all two knew each other," her father days and Eira can tell her female parent shares his concerns.

"We've met before. Fraser's not really relevant. Did you decide on a game plan?" She says, knowing that they hadn't. Better to just let her parents tire themselves out ranting instead of questioning the how and when of her and Fraser'southward interactions.

Her parent's ranted and she tried not to permit her mind linger on Fraser Vanserra.

Tried.

a/n: guys, i'k very serious when i say this is the about explicit fanfic i've ever posted. if you are not comfortable with the themes higher up, exercise not go any farther. this chapter is particularly gory and touches a lot on physical corruption and violence overall

p.south. indeed i had to make a three part prologue. i am sorry. it was stronger than me. this would not be considered by anyone in the publishing world equally a real prologue, since it's like, 3 parts and 13k words at least, but… yup. we are rolling with it.

A century or so ago…

Autumn Court Woods, Prythian

The girl changes his bandages iii times through the night.

He keeps bleeding.

She binds his arm, and his knee, too. She wipes at his face with a damp cloth, and finds herself memorizing his features by candlelight. Full lips, gaunt cheeks, a sharp jaw. He is immature, but already built for war.

Subsequently that, Alva does not allow her eyes to linger on his face up whatsoever longer than necessary.

Her father touches her shoulder when the candles begin to burn depression. "You should get some sleep."

"What do you lot think happened to him?" She whispers, looking upwards.

She looks like her father. Caramel pilus, brown peel, dark eyes. Alva has earned none of her mother's features, except, of course, her human ears.

They buried her years ago at present, only to this twenty-four hour period, Alva wishes she could take gotten a little more to recall her mother by. She would have settled for fifty-fifty a single freckle, if she had known fourth dimension would be cruel plenty to take her mother from her so early, and get out only scraps of memories and tiny little trinkets and pangs of hurt backside.

She looks like her male parent. And her pain looks like his, too.

stardustsroses answered:

Aye Absolutely.

So, I've been thinking about this for a while (lamentable for taking so long, nonnie!), and I was thinking that maybe it would be best to start in the beginning: how they became friends, and how poor Zelos found himself falling for Seren's mate (YIKES) and, like y'all suggested, how Seren finds out (DOUBLE YIKES), so this is that scene. I hope you lot like it, nonnie! And give thanks y'all for allowing me to create more ~DRAMAAAAAA~

  • At beginning, Zelos is very much Suspicious of Luna, since he doesn't sympathise her powers
  • He never saw anyone winnow such large distances
  • He'a afraid of the unknown
  • And Luna's globe is completely unknown to him
  • And so he'southward not and so easily swayed by her kind optics or her smiles
  • Everybody in his family unit seems to cook over her
  • And he doesn't understand it
  • Until one nighttime
  • She'south in that location once again
  • Sometimes Seren goes to her, but nigh times, she comes to him
  • He'd usually skip the family gatherings
  • Simply his male parent urged him to spend more fourth dimension with his family unit, and then he obliged him this once
  • Dinner was cluttered, as e'er
  • They always talked over each other, his family unit
  • Information technology was unbearable
  • He craved the silence
  • And at the end of the night, he always found himself more than exhausted than if he'd been in battle
  • After dinner, he tried to find some solace in the balcony
  • The silence of the stars comforted him
  • Zelos didn't know why he'd always felt then… autonomously from his family
  • Similar he didn't belong
  • Like they were all stars in their ain right and he… was only a shadow hovering nigh
  • It wasn't their fault
  • Perhaps there really was something the matter with him-
  • Her scent hit him like bricks
  • Zelos straightened, hands leaning on the balcony
  • Her footsteps were light and soft
  • Everything about her was gentle
  • "Want some visitor?" Her vocalisation startled him - it always did. It was oft quiet, but firm, embraced by the same softness that seemed to hover every detail almost her
  • And while he constitute himself wondering why he was bothering to note all these things, he muttered, "Not particularly."
  • She stepped next to him, close enough that he felt her warmth
  • She wore a dress of pale pink, her long waves pinned at the back, piffling wisps of pilus framing her face up, her smiling between ii full cheeks-
  • He looked away, somehow aback to her gaze on him
  • "You know," she began, "I have a bet going on with myself."
  • He cut her a sideways glance. "Uh?"
  • "That'south right." She smiled wider. "I bet I can brand you like me by the finish of the week."
  • "And why," he drawled, "do you lot intendance if I like you or not?"
  • She seemed startled and confused by the question
  • Zelos smirked. "Oh," he said. "You lot're one of those who expects everyone to immediately love them - and experience insecure when they don't."
  • Luna watched him, smile gone
  • And possibly he was a little bit sorry to be the reason every bit to why it disappeared from her face up
  • He thought he'd offended her, only after a heartbeat'south pause, she murmured, "I recollect you lot're right."
  • "Why?"
  • Luna paused. "I like to please people. I like to make them smile. And you never smiling around me." Somehow the words cut him open. They hurt more than they should. "Maybe it bothers me a little. I know information technology hasn't been that long, and that I'm an intruder in your home. But I would very much similar us to be friends."
  • Zelos paused, leaning his forearms against the railing, watching the skies change. "Y'all don't have to make friends with everyone yous meet, you know."
  • "Yes," she said slowly. "But why shouldn't I make friends?"
  • "I'm not saying you shouldn't make friends, Princess. I'g saying you shouldn't brand friends with me."
  • She raised a brow, and a corner of her rima oris lifted
  • Zelos wished he hadn't caught that
  • She looked too pretty making that confront
  • He stopped himself earlier he could consider that farther
  • "Oh?" She said. "Well, the more than reason for me to try, and then." She mimicked him, leaning against the balcony too. "Seren says you lot two have been at each other's throats e'er since you lot were children. Is that true?"
  • "Perchance," he says. "Your mate tin be an irritable ass."
  • Surprisingly, she laughed
  • Under her breath, and then softly information technology was barely an exhale, but still - a laugh
  • He'd never thought he'd be the one to make her express mirth
  • But there it was
  • And this was the longest conversation they'd ever had
  • "Now, that's a surprise," Zelos said. "Y'all're not denying information technology."
  • "Please," she said. "Everyone can exist an irritable donkey sometimes. You lot're being an irritable ass right now." She gestured grandly toward him
  • Bold - she was bold
  • And clever
  • And all too kind
  • Zelos' mouth twitched. "Your bet is stupid."
  • "I don't think wanting to become to know you is stupid," she said, then shrugged. "I remember y'all'll find me funny."
  • "Oh?"
  • "I think y'all might exist jolly company."
  • Jolly company
  • He snorted internally
  • She couldn't be real
  • "Alright, fine," Luna said. "Yes, yous're right, I don't accept to befriend anybody I encounter. But I desire to befriend yous. Is that alright with you?"
  • Zelos considered this
  • His gaze institute hers. "I don't remember you lot'll like me to be your friend."
  • "So y'all take that bad of an opinion of yourself?"
  • "Speaking from experience."
  • Luna frowned. "Well, perhaps you lot haven't met many kind people outside your family."
  • "Maybe non," he said. "Is that what you lot intend, Princess? Be kind to me?" He smirked. "Practice I expect similar I need a hug, is that it?"
  • "Well, yes," she said, so softly now. "You lot practice."
  • Zelos straightened
  • His jaw clenched. "I don't demand yous to pity me."
  • Luna straightened besides, startled by his reaction. "I didn't mean-"
  • "What did you mean?"
  • Luna didn't plow back around and leave, similar she should take, given the way he spoke to her, voice harsh, almost a growl
  • She paused, looked abroad from him and his burning eyes, and instead followed the lines of the houses scattered by the river
  • "Well," she murmured, fifty-fifty when he didn't expect her to respond, "I'one thousand the youngest in my family, and I've always felt as if I… y'all know, couldn't really be part of the group. When I was a child, everyone was already grown enough to look after me, and that hasn't stopped. They don't mean any harm, of class. And I honey my family. But protectiveness tin lead to isolation. I know loneliness when I see it." She looked at him, sort of tentatively, simply Zelos was staring right ahead
  • He wondered if she'd e'er told her mate this
  • Only considering the rawness of her vocalisation, if her words… he guessed she hadn't
  • Maybe she hadn't admitted that to anyone before
  • He found her crinkling her nose slightly as she looked at the city again. "I retrieve you and I could find complicity. Just that. I didn't hateful to assume anything, but watching you hither on your own… it reminded me of how I felt many times before. How I nevertheless feel… sometimes."
  • Zelos' feet felt rooted to the footing
  • He'd never expect-
  • He'd never guess that Luna would let go of something so deep in front of him
  • He'd never seen such vulnerability - in anyone
  • And it appeared that Luna was stunned at herself too
  • But she gathered her bearings, straightened and endemic that vulnerability, even equally she turned to confront him
  • "That'southward to say… I'm a friend, if you're in need of one." She smiled then, a piffling hesitantly. "And almost what yous said, I don't think we're all piece of cake to be friends with. We all accept our struggles. That doesn't mean you're not worthy of my friendship, or that I wouldn't similar being your friend. Complications and everything."
  • Zelos hesitated, swallowing down the tightness wrapped effectually his throat
  • He touched his brow, and sighed
  • No i had ever been that vulnerable or candid with him
  • It… touched him
  • It moved him
  • Information technology made him look at her in a brand new lite
  • And suddenly, he saw her all too well
  • Past the kindness, the smiles, the soft phonation
  • He saw a female that survived solely on love - on giving it and receiving information technology
  • And that was the very thing he feared
  • Love, and how information technology could destroy him
  • And yet here she was
  • Shining similar the loveliest star
  • And and so total of beloved for everyone
  • Then ready to spare a tiny flake to him
  • It unsettled him so much that, for a long time, he didn't know what to say
  • And at last, when words found him, he murmured a quiet, "Thanks."
  • Luna elbowed him gently, smiled, and winked playfully. "Told y'all I could practise it."
  • "What do you win, and then? Now that you've won the bet to yourself?"
  • She giggled. Giggled. "Y'all, of form. A make new friend."
  • "So I'1000 a trophy now?" He said, attempting to make his tone lighter
  • Zelos was all too used to barking commands
  • But he was… enjoying this back and along
  • And her energy, her softness, was contagious
  • And he wanted to go along it going for every bit long as she immune
  • And then he tried
  • He was trying
  • And Luna, satisfied that she finally hooked him, said, "A skilful 1, too, I bet, where friends are concerned."
  • "You flatter me. And flatter yourself if you think you're that expert of a approximate of graphic symbol."
  • "But I am," she said
  • And gave him the well-nigh brilliant smiling
  • It made his heart stop, then clasp within his chest
  • He wanted to await abroad and couldn't
  • Then her eyed softened, her lips parted like she was ready to say something else
  • "Luna."
  • The dream was shattered
  • Reality rained down on him
  • Seren stood in the doubledoors
  • Leaning against them
  • Luna'southward grin was redirected
  • Zelos stiffened
  • Particularly as Seren'due south eyes met his for only half a second
  • Luna had nevertheless to notice the strain in Seren'southward trunk, it seemed
  • But Zelos had known him longer
  • And he'd fought him before
  • He recognized Seren's forced casualness served just to hide his rage
  • Is was raging, alright
  • It took Zelos a quarter of a second to see information technology
  • Simply he was adept - Zelos had to requite him that. He hid it from his mate perfectly
  • Luna's grinning didn't falter. She noticed nix amiss between them. "Hey y'all."
  • Seren gave her an easy smile. "Prepare to get abode? Or exercise you lot wish to stay for a picayune while longer? My parents will be off, too."
  • "Nosotros should go. I should get some sleep," she said. Then turned to Zelos. "Nice talk, y'all."
  • "Overnice talk, you." He said. And to rile the shit out of Seren, simply generally considering he wanted to, he managed a smile just for Luna
  • Hers widened. "Goodnight," she murmured, walking back to her mate
  • "Goodnight, Princess," Zelos murmured back, right as Seren enveloped Luna in his arms, protectively bowing his head to her
  • Only his eyes establish Zelos over her shoulder
  • And there was a alert at that place, but earlier Seren took the calorie-free abroad
